Spring, is that you?

If you’re looking out the window currently, you might not believe me.
But did you witness yesterday?
One of the sunniest, most perfect days that Sydney had to offer lately.
Remember when we were excited a few short months ago about warm chunky knits, hot tea, snuggling inside with a good book, or just snuggling in general. We took for granted what we were going to miss – the smell of coconut sunscreen, the warm sun on your back with enough breeze to keep you cool, breaking back in those thongs, hello blisters! Walking places because why would you drive when it’s so lovely outside, dining outdoors with friends and taking your sweet time. There was a taste of Spring yesterday, and I liked it!
We constantly read posts, instagrams, quotes etc about the powers of positive thinking, changing your perception for a better outlook, spring clean to relieve stress, create a sense of accomplishment etc however when you read this, on a rainy day, with no sun in sight, no motivation to go out in the cold – it’s a little hard to take it all on board and want to put it into action.

Waking up yesterday to such amazing weather, my mind automatically thought, it’s going to be a good day. All those smells of spring, you feel like the day is never ending (in a good way). So simple that a change in weather, automatically brings a shift in attitude and positivity without actually really trying very hard at all to bring this to the forefront of your mind.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is, I woke up yesterday. Saw what the weather was like. Felt spring, smelt spring, immediately felt happier, lighter and just... excited. I didn’t need a blog, Instagram or quotes on my phone to put me in that mood, just stepping outside did that for me.
I encourage you to try it

Should Do vs Get To

Recently I attended a really great workshop – “Secret Women’s Business”.
This workshop was all about honing in on skills regarding eating and preparing nourishing food to compliment your exercise and lifestyle as a female, alongside positive thinking and learning to change your mind set about how you view exercise, eating habits and your thoughts in general.
Complimented with a yummy lunch and a fab yoga session, my friend Bec and I had an awesome day!
What I felt like I got most out of this day, and the reason for this post, was the stress we seem to put on ourselves with an “I should” mentality.
This seemed like perfect timing for me, as I was going through a stage with my fitness regime where I was starting to be quite hard on myself for the things that I “should” be doing.
I should get up and go, but I don’t want to. I should go, but I really would prefer to do this instead... etc
Sometimes, I agree that when feeling like this, the best thing to do is to motivate yourself, and just go out and do it anyway as you’ll feel infinitely better once its done, but I’m also discovering that if you have an alternative that you feel you would enjoy more for that particular situation or feeling, well, do that!
We need to start having more of an “ I get to do this” mentality instead of “I should do this”
How is your brain and body going to willingly want to do anything if you’re already trying to convince yourself that its such a task in the first place? By replacing the thoughts with “I get to”, this already makes you feel like it’s a joy and an activity to look forward to.

If you’re a dedicated exerciser, and you love your routine like I do, but there’s some mornings you wake up and just don’t really want to stick to that routine, I’m learning that it’s ok to just say no. Do something instead that you feel will benefit you better for your present state of mind. Personally I feel like I’m way too hard on myself, and missing these sessions for whatever reason, is deemed as a personal failure and set back to the goals that i'm working towards.
It’s really not, it’s just that maybe I chose to enjoy my morning/day in a different way. Amazing things happen if we open ourselves up to them.
As a highly organised person I think it’s a great habit to start to test on myself, so that when things happen outside of my control, I’m not at a loss of what to do with my lack of “routine”.

Don’t want to Crossfit your ass off at 5am? Opt for the 7am neighbourhood walk instead.
Don’t feel like running with no end in sight out in the cold? Go to a warm and cosy yoga class and stretch out those muscles instead.
This post doesn’t advocate pulling the plug or giving up, but is a reminder that changing things up from your normal routine, and working on your “I get to” mentality, can be nothing but a positive change to your mindset and workouts.

Friday Faves

Friday Faves
This week's Friday Faves are incredibly random but hopefully enjoyable nontheless

Sometimes the best things occur when not planned
Enjoy!

Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion
This product was marketed and released last year, and I didn't pay much attention to it. How can something act as a moisturiser inside the shower? I'm glad you asked!
The lotions ingredients are activated by water and immediately absorb into the skin. You can use your regular soap or body wash, and follow with the Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion. Rinse off and then step out and dry off. It legitimately feels like you've just applied moisturising lotion and remains like this for the whole day

Lorna Jane - Nourish
The Pre-Order release of Lorna Jane's first cookbook "Nourish".
Very eager to check this one out! Making Dinner's are my downfall, and it's probably time I expanded my creativity from chicken and salad.

Baies Candle by Diptyque
Included in the reasons why I love winter, is that there's more of an excuse to burn awesome smelling candles in this cold weather. One of my favourites and worth the money, is Baies by Diptyque. This baby was lit over the long weekend, where it burned evenly and smelt amazingly of roses and blackcurrents for over 4 hours.

CoYo Yoghurt
A yummy alternative from the dairy yoghurts around, CoYo is made from the creamy milk of the coconut with plant fed probiotic cultures. Available with Mango, Passionfruit, Mixed Berries, or my favourite - Plain ol' Coconut. Tastes amazing with fresh berries of your own and cinnamon.

Old School Songs
If you can remember this one, and better yet still willingly dance to it, then we can be friends. So many things wrong with this song, yet so many things right.
Peter Andre - Mysterious Girl
Not your thing? Enjoy the abs shot anyway

Habits

I don't know about you, but lately i've been feeling a little...blah. Not stuck in a rut or lazy, but blah nonetheless. Maybe it's because you've had a long day, and you're tired, low on energy, or quite simply cant contemplate coming home to cook dinner or clean the house.

An amazing, relaxing holiday, followed by a really inconvenient injury, and a business trip, has left me feeling blah and deflated, and wondering how I can best get back on track.
You may not have seen many posts for awhile. The motivation has been lacking, so giving less than 100% to this fun and enjoyable space is not an option, and realistically the job that pays my bills, consumes a lot of my time, energy and thought processes currenly.
But excuses aside, this blog still makes me happy, and encourages me to continue to share inspiration and ideas with you all, in the hopes that you can take a little, or a lot away from it.

This week I've been dedicating time to catching up on sleep, energy, and enjoying looking forwards not backwards. Amazing things start to happen when you look forwards, who would have thought!

Monday, begins the start of a new week, of which I will be ridding myself of this blah mentality and implementing some new ideas and habits into my every day.

- Preparing meals the night before. This will allow me a little sleep in, but not compromise on healthy meals

- Stretching every night before move. Improving blood flow and flexibility

- Assess my weekly workouts to see what other results I can achieve from them

- Researching different food recipes for my next grocery shop and food prep opportunity

~

What are some new habits that you will be trying next week?
